NightLight

Nightlight original print is a cyanotype print with white gouache and Prussian blue acrylic ink.  It is in a 22x28 solid white oak /glass frame with white matt board.  The image itself is 18x24.  
To create the image I collected wild foliage from the hillside behind my house.  I coated the paper with a solution.  Once  the solution dries i arrange the composition of foliage, dried flowers, wooden stars and moth cutout.  Everything is compressed and clipped down under a large sheet of plexi glass.  It is then set out in the sun to react.  After the reaction phase is complete I give the paper a wash with water and hydrogen peroxide  to remove any remaining solution and enhance image left by the sun and deepen the Prussian blue.  When the paper dries I add touches of white gouache and  Prussian blue ink. I try not to disrupt the image that naturally occurred. 
I love the process as it is both scientific and creative. It is a collaboration between the artist and the natural world.  The sun plays such a magical part by creating a reaction with its energy and the wild foliage imprints its simple beauty to be enjoyed for years to come. It is truly a unique process.
